Not that this applies to anyone in particular unless the shoe fits, but when I hear phrases like “telling it like it is” or “speaking my mind” or “I’ll tell you what I think and I don’t care” or “Not PC” or something similar, some folks obliviously confuse intelligence with a lack of self restraint.
While their remarks may be intended as a put down for a specific individual or a group, it comes across to others as simply a lack of class. And others lack of comment does not mean approval. Consider these axioms of forum etiquette… Don’t wrestle with pigs. Period. The best ignore feature for the forum is between the ears. Rendering an opinion on everything spreads credibility too thin. Opinions are just that but those backed up with facts win the day. Keep an open mind on everything, even when you’re certain you’re right. Don’t let Google, Wiki and YouBoob do all your talking for you. If you do, chances are you’re not that smart, so comment on the source to show at least you understood it yourself. And finally, just because you have the last word doesn’t mean you won the argument. It just means nobody is listening anymore. Noli nothis permittere te terere |
