Hey, just a word of advice to you all, I checked on the Alabama website (http://www.treasury.alabama.gov/up/) and a member of my family DID have some money being held. It's been a fairly easy process to claim it and you can plug in any name you want and it will bring up anything that is being held for you. Seems like a lot are uncashed state checks, ours was a payment from an insurance company that we never got (probably was lost in the mail). It's pretty neat to find money! The only problem we had was it was in our daughter's name during the 8 months we lived in an apt. after she was born in 1978 (based on the address). Luckily I'm a super organized (can you say OCD?) person so I still had a copy of a utility bill proving we lived there way back then, and documentation that we were who we said we were. Anyhow, just thought I'd pass this along for others who may have a little surprise just waiting for them!
