Their services are very nearly indistinguishable. Negotiate with them for a better price. Once you select either one, you're locked in for two years. When we dropped cable, we tried Hughes Net but it had major problems. Went with AT&T DSL. You can get it without a telephone if you so wish.

From my experience in dealing w/ both, it's hands down, Direct tv.
Also, customer service differences are like night and day, Dish doesn't even compare.(my opinion only)
Their remote controls operate in different ways, but nothing that I would base my decision on, though.
Direct has more to offer in the way of sports programming.
Both have specials and it seems like Dish, being #2, is trying harder to snag prospective customers.Try this: http://www.direct-vs-dish.com/

what he said except i will add that Dish's DVR is much better (user friendly) than Directs. it is not better enough that i would pay much extra for it but is a tipping point if you cant decide.

We have had direct for about seven years now with no complaints. We also live in the boonies in which we use verizon broadband and it's a good way to go also. We did have att dsl before we moved out here and it was ok too. I guess it depends on where you live because they do not offer dsl out here.

Switched from Dish to Direct and regret it. Dish remote and menu are more user friendly. Dish also offers a smaller package that has more channels than I need. I plan on switching back as soon as I'm off the hook with Direct.
I have ATT DSL and I am satisfied with it. If you had Comcast then ATT is probably available where you are.

Why are there so many music channels? I would rather get two or three more channels and they can keep the music.

How often does anyone listen to the music channels?

Maybe once a year.. When I get bored or something but otherwise it's not used. I like your idea of offering more channels instead.

In the experience of my family, Dish is sold like snake oil is sold. A lot of lies at the beginning, a lot of broken promises.

There is TV, there are channels on the TV. But there is the constant feeling of being ripped off. I believe that when the contract is up, Comcast will look pretty good.

Maybe it depends on where you buy it. (who the 'dealer' is)

TOO MUCH FINE PRINT...all designed to rip you off. Comcast Cable stinks also...keep removing channels and not reducing cost.

Comcast stinks. Lived in a town where the public utility set up their own cable and internet. Comcast came in, beat their prices just to run the town out of business. Once they did, they doubled their monthly rates. I've had dish now for 10 years. Haven't been happier.

Have always been happy with Direct tv. Other than I think it's a little overpriced. Is Dish really cheaper?

Dish has a smaller package available. You would need to check the lineup of channels to see if it suits your needs. Go to their websites and compare the rates. I also think Dish menu is easier to navigate, but it may be that I'm just used to it. I know I'll be switching back as soon as possible.

Had Dish Network. Left it last year and went to DirecTV. I wanted to upgrade to HD, and put in another receiver...Dish wanted an arm, a leg and a couple of other body parts I wasn't willing to surrender, plus charge me for new equipment and not give me any credit for the stuff I was turning in.

DirectTV had a special going where I got my new equipment for free, and free installation. Plus, I get quite a few channels that interest me on the basic DirectTV package that I didn't on Dish.

I'm pretty sold on DirectTV.

Wanted to continue with DirecTV here, but it turns out there's a mountain between my house and the satellite. Now have Comcast. Ah, well. We'll see how it goes.
