I'm asking those of you who have Verizon if the 3G claim is actually true? Do we have 3G in this area or is it just hipe. I swapped from them because their service wasn't great at my home on Hwy 157 near White Oak but that was a few years ago. I got the wireless card for my laptop with my provider now but it is pretty much useless unless I go to Decatur where 3G will pick up with it. Thinking of swapping over but wanted to see if it actually is any better than what I have now which is ATT.

I switched from att to verizon about six months ago and I am very happy with it. The wireless card and phone service is much better.

DO you get 3g though? I doubt it. My data service is horrible in the shoals.

i cant stand at&t. don't even consider them if you want high speed service. I am done with them as soon as my contract runs out. |

In reality, the coverage difference isn't as dramatic as the commercial makes it (Verizon is showing their voice coverage vs at&t's data coverage, and in some areas the 3g coverage is actually Sprints, which they have a data roaming agreement with. Verizon does have the bigger network but in terms of markets its 400 verizon, 370 at&t)
As far as mobile broadband on verizon, if you aren't in a 3g area the speed you'll get is 400/700k up and 60/80k down. Might as well get DSL lite instead. Even in a 3g area, its only 600/1.4m down and 500/800k up. That's ok, but there's also a 5gb limit, and for $60, you would get better speed from Cable or DSL. |

When I bought my agreement with ATT on my broadband, there was no limit. I haven't updated my plan so I'm gonna call them on it if they try to charge me for going over. But in this area, I'll never do that since it's so slow. Now if I live near H'ville or at Gulf Shores, it would be hard not to exceed that since they have 3G in their areas. I'm just waiting on someone in this area to offer a wireless serviee for net and phones that will complete, be faster and cost less. I know, it's a dream.

you never know. Wimax makes it feasible, and there was a article several months back in the paper talking about rural wifi (The writer probably meant wimax) which at least shows that someone has at least thought about it. Probably will be a few years since Clear is just really getting started, and no one is going to have a substantial LTE network up until 2011/12.
