New Kid on the Block |
I am new to southern Tennessee and north Alabama. I have been living in Texas for about the last eight years, and I have recently moved to Tennessee. Can anyone tell me where the best places to eat and shop are at and how to get there. PLEASE.

Mommaangel25: It all depends on where you live and what you like to eat.

Welcome to the area (and the forum). It depends largely on where you lived before in Texas (what you have grown accustomed to). There is a great deal of difference in Dallas and Houston vs. Round Top or Crawford. You will find lots of chains and some really good “mom and pop” type places here. For a nice night out there are places like the tower (360) in Florence as well as one or two locally owned steak places that are good. Depending on where you are in Tennessee and what you want, you might find much more in Huntsville or even by taking a short hop to Nashville. You can take a night and go downtown and Broadway is full of music places and nice restaurants. It really is lots of fun and if you are from a bigger city you will feel right at home. You just pay to park and can walk from one place to another. It is a nice departure from Florence if you need a getaway. Also the Opryland Hotel will be doing their Christmas decorations soon and the Radio City Rockettes will be in town for the Christmas engagement. I know it sounds hokey, but it is a good weekend getaway and gets you in the mood for the holidays. If you want to stick around here though, there are many chain restaurants, there is also George's in Sheffield, Dales in Florence, and for a great wood fired pizza try Ricatoni's in Florence downtown. There are also several places to go for drinks or casual bar food and watch Alabama beat whoever they happen to be playing. It really just depends on what you like and what you are used to. Most of these have been discussed ad nauseam and you can just glance back through the old postings to get eveyone's opinion on local spots as well. There is also an active thread on a place in southern Tennessee that might interest you (but I have not been there so I can offer no opinion). Link You really are in a good spot because you can go any direction. Good luck. It's a zero sum game...somebody wins, somebody loses. |

Olive Garden pales in comparison to Ricatoni's. Rick's is locally owned. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun and while it's family friendly, it has more of an adult atmosphere than Olive Garden. Rick's is consistently good and the service is quick.

MA25, you have had ten responses without a comment or amplification on your part regarding which areas you are in nearest proximity to you...so, I begin to think your inquiry was not legitimate.
You could receive help if contributors knew which area you would find most convenient to shop. American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. |

Sorry that it has took me some time to get back to you all. I was at work. I live in Loretto at the moment, and I have been working in Killen lately. I lived near Wichita Falls. I like all kinds of food, and I am always willing to try anything once. Sometimes my work schedule is hectic and it may take me a doy or two to get back to you all, but I appreciate all the info that you have give me.

Clothing: Regency Square Mall on Cox Creek Pkywy has J C Penny's, Belks and some others like Victoria's Secret. Some where below that in the price structure would be Martin's, about a half mile west of RS Mall. Also, along Cox Creek Parkway, Florence, you will find other clothing outlets including Sam's Club, Goody's, Wal-Mart, K Mart. There is also a Sears in the Regency Square Mall.
Food: Really good steak, Stanfields at Rogersville or Ford City (West on County Road 40, aka, River Road), toward the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Logan's Steak House, Florence Blvd. just off Cox Creek Parkway. There is a theater, behind Regency Square. I would suggest that you make specific inquiries regarding what you want to find, i.e., grocery store, car repairs, etc. American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. |
