"Fundamentalist Christianity, also known as Christian fundamentalism or fundamentalist evangelicalism, is a movement that arose mainly within British and American Protestantism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries among conservative evangelical Christians"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F...ntalist_Christianity Basically some guys with little biblical training and a bad hair pieces decided to create their own interpretation of the bible. |

Well, yes, that is simple historical fact. The rubric of "conservative Christian" is a self-definition, and one at which most Orthodox and Mainline Protestants and our Roman friends would take great umbrage, for it is a lie: they are not conservative at all, rather an ossified reactionary source that has come completely unglued, split asunder with various competing theories of how to interpret the Bible and how holy each one is or not.
They may memorize the words, but with enough practice, I am sure I could memorize an Chinese short verse or two rather flawlessly, yet not have an inkling of what I was repeating. It is an internal movement which is manifested in outward "devotion" and "piety" vice the inward and invisible to the world ways of the true believer, whose heart is devoted to the principles and not the accidents of transmission. It is a very worldly method of theological reckoning, for all their claims of being "not of this world," I fear. They want black and white and good v. evil not abstract, but manifest and physically present. In short, it is a very vulgar Hegelian dialectic which only allows collision head on with no vectors or outside forces interacting, plus, it is boring, ever changing as new camps arise, and repugnant to the plain language of Holy Writ and the apostolic teachings. But hey, someone has to buy all those books, DVDs and crap for sale on the Jesus channels. I prefer not to waste my money on bad novels and sadly styled "prophets." I can read quite well myself for free. |
