At least the Shoals is not going bankrupt. Me thinks you protest too much.

We, like moon, moved to Birmingham from the Shoals (in 99). We'd move back in a second if the wages weren't so much lower than here, and we may yet move back anyway - the hubby has 6 months to finish up a degree and I have one more year to step up my stuff, too. (Well, 18 months).
I, too, like the shopping and eating here. But everything takes twice as long due to the slothfulness of sales clerks, waiters, and any other service person you try to deal with. You practically have to give dna to write a check here due to the bogus goings on of the population (I can't tell you how long I've stood in lines at the bank and how many times I've done it waiting for some bank clerk to call someone's grandfather/mother to verify the check the guy in front of me is trying to check is actually THEIR check being cashed with THEIR permission - and how few times that turned out to be the case), the corruption of the elected (over and over and over again) officials, the lack of quality of schools and the crime (although it is usually concentrated in areas I don't visit). Once in a while some poor woman will try to walk her dog in her apartment complex in a decent area and thugs will shoot her, or some guy will try the same thing and the same thugs will rob him. And sometimes a nurse will drive down I20/59 and take Arkadelphia road to work at Princeton and a random shooter will fire into her car and hit her in the cheek, though.
Birmingham vs. Shoals? No contest. It's hard to chew at Bogatta with a bullet wound in your chin.

If you look at MOONDOGGIE's past posts, pretty much all of them exist to vent bitter feelings about the Shoals. I'm glad s/he is happy in Birmingham, because usually people with that much bitterness and anger will move around looking for happiness, but never find it simply because they are not happy within. Good luck finding a local bar for a drink and a restaurant that isn't a chain or greasy spoon? I could point you towards several, but thankfully you aren't coming back. The Shoals doesn't need your groaning and whining.
