One of the 20 finalists in health care video contest run by Barack Obama’s campaign arm features a mural of an America flag splattered with health care graffiti until it’s covered completely by black paint.

In the video – which is accompanied by the sound of a heart monitor pumping and then flat-lining – words such as “pre-existing conditions,” “homeless” and “death panel” ultimately obliterate the flag, which reappears on screen seconds later with the words “Health Will Bring Our Country Back to Life” on the blue field where the 50 stars usually are.

According to the Organizing for American Web site, the 20 finalists in the “Health Reform Video Challenge” were chosen by a panel of “qualified” Democratic National Committee “employee judges.”

Theses DNC judges are about as qualified at the President.

Seems obliterating the flag is something dems do well lately.

As well as apologizing for having one.

Desecrating the flag - whether by splattering it with graffiti or burning it - is an abhorrent act to me, personally. But I'll defend someone's right to do it because I don't want to start down the slippery slope of limiting freedoms; that's certainly not what this country is about. You just have to take the good with the bad sometimes.

Seems it may depend on the type of flag.

quote:
The flag of the United States is sometimes symbolically burnt, often in protest of the policies of the American government, both within the country and abroad. The United States Supreme Court has ruled that, due to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, it is unconstitutional for a government (whether federal, state, or municipality) to prohibit the desecration of a flag, due to its status as "symbolic speech."
Today, defacing a flag is an act of protected speech under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, as established in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), and reaffirmed in U.S. v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990).

[edit] Rainbow Flag

In 1999 three protesters tore down and burned a Rainbow Flag, standing for gay rights, from the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. The flag had been flying in honor of Gay Pride Month which had just been declared by President Bill Clinton. The flag burners were arrested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and charged with misdemeanor counts of arson and disorderly conduct.[42]

Barracus, according to Lieutenant John Born of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, "The flag they tore down and set on fire did not belong to them and they were charged as a result of that incident."

That flag was born from the blood of heros, sustained by generations of American Patriots and deserves RESPECT not contempt at the hands of the Obamanation.

People have been burning and disrespecting the flag for years.

They have that right.

There are a few places and people who vehemently disagree and a wise person is going to know when this is a stupid act. Personally, I will tolerate you burning our flag if you wrapped yourself in it first...heck, I'll even provide the match.

Then where do you draw the line at what people are allowed/not allowed the freedom to do? This is still America, right? Stupid act or not, the freedom to burn the flag has been bought and paid for.

Yep, you have the right to burn it but don't be surprised if you pay a price for your bad judgement. You are free to burn it, others are free to react.

Yes people are free to react. However if their reaction is against the law, they are freely saying punish me.

Military members defend the Constitution, not the flag.

A lot of violations go unpunished...serious crimes. First, you have to catch the violator. I will defend the Constitution, the flag and if necessary, my actions. I take responsibility for myself...It's is our flag, not a rag.

I think it says a lot about the Socialist Democratic Party that they would choose to honor a video of flag desecration...Change we can believe in...????

You are correct, it is not a rag, however the freedoms that I defend gives every citizen the right to burn it if they decide.

Taking away that right is a going to cause slippery slope.
