You talked about a racist. What is the difference when you talk about a writer from up north as a slur? You get what pay for and the truth is there is plenty of racism still in the south, especially in Alabama. We sat down last night and watched the show "My big fat redneck wedding" on CMT. There wasn't one redneck wedding that didn't have the Confererate flag shown on everything possible. You people just won't let go, face it you LOST the war. Sorry but since that war you white people have to get off your butts and work for yourself. No more free labor and you're still pissed about it. Oh by the way you can call me a Yankee all you want but my wife and in-laws are from your area so I know from what I speak.

Why don't you take all your hate and head back north with it?

It is ignorance such as yours that keeps stereotypes stirring. But if you want to argue points, we can. The South suffered reconstruction and is much more progressive than you can imagine. It is growing rapidly while the rust belt melts in the snow. Yes, there are some ignorant people everywhere you go, but for the most part Southerners are further beyond such pettiness than many other areas of the country.

One of the largest KKK groups in America today is based in Marion, Ohio. Marion and Crawford County hosts some deep hatred. The largest collection and variation of Confederate flags I have ever seen was in Mansfield, Ohio. Now why would somebody in Mansfield, Ohio decorate their yard with such an array? No, they weren't from the South. (I just came back home from living four years in Ohio.)

There are nice people in Ohio. Not everyone is ignorant. But I think this example helps make my point.

Yes the South lost the war. Many Northerners took advantage of the South during Reconstruction. It is documented that after the war the South was well on the way to recovering from racial divides until reconstruction and the "carpet baggers." Then the South took on racism that was rampant throughout most of the 20th century. But most people ignore the same racism in all parts of the country.

My point, it isn't the region that makes someone racist or full of hatred. It is the person or persons. Sadly hatred can be contagious.

You are free to argue whatever you wish. I am thankful for our freedoms. I am thankful that President-Elect Obama is going to help us overcome such issues (that is my belief). But I can assure you that I take issue with someone degrading my home.

Many of my friends in Alabama voted for McCain while I voted for Obama (sorry I drug politics into this but I have to make a point). I don't care who they voted for as long as they voted. I still love everyone back home and I love Alabama.

Unfortunately I don't live at home, but I hold true to that famous song by the group Alabama. My home's in Alabama, Southern born and Southern bred.

No, I'm not through yet. Alabama has many famous landmarks of progress including the Marshall Space Flight Center, the home of Helen Keller, Tuskegee University and the home of George Washington Carver, birthplace to many variations of music with people such as W.C. Handy and Sam Phillips. The list could go on and on.

My friend, come to Alabama and discover love and hospitality beyond your wildest dreams. But if you come here expecting to make problems then please stay home.

At one time I subscribed to the New yorker magazine because they had such good fiction writers - a long time ago! During this time I fell into a group from New York while eating dinner on a tour. One of them asked in a condescending tone, "Just what do you do for entertainment in Alabama?" My quick retort in my most Scarlet voice was, "I read the New Yorker magazine." There was a dead silence.

I saw that show you are referring to. The "newlyweds" on last nights show were from Washington state, not exactly a southern state! As a matter of fact, as a regular viewer of that show I noticed that a lot of the shows are filmed in states other than southern states.

You sir/ma'am, are an idiot.

Must be difficult to walk straight with that ENORMOUS chip on your shoulder! It's people like you that keep racism alive and well and try to blame it on "we white people".

If things are so bad in the South, why do people from the North keep moving here in droves. If it's that bad, Delta is ready when you are!

What am I reading, someone cutting down the CONFEREATE FLAG, there were a lot of good people who laid down their lives for it, it is not a racist flag. And there is nothing wrong with being called a redneck. What about all that rap music, have you ever listen to it, you will find there is awful words used in a lot of it, some words that I would dare not even say.

I do respect the CONFEREATE FLAG and always will.

If my memory serves me correct some of the worst racial riots in America were in Detroit and Chicago. Wonder why all the rioting up north if there is no bigotry?

I agree with most on here....I 65 will take you right back up to utopia my friend.

So you people take exception to the truth. Well let me answer some of your points. You can claim you have a justification for your bias because of what happen after the civil war. Well let me tell you clueless had your southern boy Booth not shot Lincoln you would have gone through the carpetbagger crap. Besides what in the world does that have to do with southerns hanging people well into the 60's because of the color of their skin. I would agree that the Alabama song is very good but for some reason most people down there think "Sweet home Alabama" by Skynard is your state song. Please take the time to read the lyrics of that song some time. A good song defending racism and the politicians that supported it. I do need to congratulate you on your Senator Shelby. I have never seen a bigger lying hypocrite in all my life. Apparently your state can get millions if not billions of federal dollars for your *** auto plants but not The Big Three to save millions of jobs across the country. Boy your senators come running and crying to the federal government to help you clean up and rebuild after Katrina. I wish Congress would have told you to go fly a kite. You're the idiots that want to live on the gulf or in a city that's under sea level. Tough luck to you too. Your problems wouldn't affect millions. One last thing, for what you claim to be the most religious and patriotic part of the country why do we see nothing but Toyotas and Hondas when we're down there? Oh I wondered if you knew that about 80 some percent of the cost of those *** cars go back an non christian country, Japan. Sorry to tell you but they practice Shinto and Buddism. Kind of shoots your christian religion, doesn't it? Opps I forgot one last thing. You people down there were so torn up about 9/11, as were we all. The Big Three gave millions of dollars and all kind of vehicles to New York. Guess how much the *** auto industry gave? Hyundai gave about a hundred thousand to the Red Cross. Toyota, Honda and the rest $0.
