"WESTON, Wis. — Police are investigating an 11-year-old girl's death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor."

The girl had ketoacidosis, which is a form of diabetes that is treatable by common insulin therapy.

"We just noticed a tiredness within the past two weeks," she said Wednesday. "And then just the day before and that day [she died], it suddenly just went to a more serious situation. We stayed fast in prayer then. We believed that she would recover. We saw signs that to us, it looked like she was recovering."

That is so sad. How can someone be so deceived? That poor little girl. If your child being sick and in need of medical care doesn't shake sense into you, nothing will.

This dad is a former police officer...wouldn't surprise me to find out that his state of mind is why he's a "former" officer & not currently employed. They are either crazy or cruel...either way, they don't need to raise another child.

God gave us common sense. Some fail to ever use it. Confused

During a similar post a few months back, some people here staunchly defended some Jehovah's Witnesses for allowing their child to die after refusing a simple blood transfusion.

Details here

During days that end in Y, some people are complete idiots. What's your point, other than to bait yet another religion-oriented flamewar?

We get it. You feel superior to anyone who believes in God. Congratulations.

These were/are people, parents of perfect faith.

What supersedes what here? The faith and laws of their god? Or the laws of common sense and modern man?

If you are a person of faith, real faith, how could you pass judgment? They prayed about this and left it in god's hands, and he chose to take her earthly life.

Isn't she better off in heaven? No more suffering for her, land of milk and honey, streets of gold.

How can you, if you really believe in this god and heaven, argue with this?

The father, a former police officer, sworn to uphold man's law, chose to go with faith in the almighty....

Were he and his wife wrong to believe that their god would save their child's life?

Or even that their god could save their child's life?

And they've got three other children....I hope that they don't need medical attention....

I believe their error was in the fact that they never moved beyond the "ask" part of the "ask/seek/knock" plan. Because I'm pressed for time, I'll let someone else elaborate.

To be perfectly honest, that's pretty much it. Wink

Ed, you do know, of course, that the "House" character you highlight in every one of your posts is an atheist? Ironic, huh? Wink

Exactly what law are you referring to? I'm unaware of one that forbids the use of modern medicine. Luke, as in The Gospel according to, was a doctor.

If you are a person of faith, real faith, how could you pass judgment? They prayed about this and left it in god's hands, and he chose to take her earthly life.
Whatever, miami. So when the Samaritan took pity on a man who'd been attacked, bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine, took him to an inn & took care of him, what Jesus meant to say was the Samaritan told the guy medical care was not needed. He just needed to pray harder.

Isn't she better off in heaven? No more suffering for her, land of milk and honey, streets of gold.
Her life was not their's to take. Besides the fact that God would never tell them to let this child die, she has or at least SHOULD have the right to life in this country.

How can you, if you really believe in this god and heaven, argue with this?
Easy. I just did. Smiler

No, but neglecting to get the child help when they knew full well it was available was extremely wrong.

Or even that their god could save their child's life?
Same answer as above.

And they've got three other children....I hope that they don't need medical attention....
I hope they are taken from these two & given to someone with enough sense to raise them.

I'm sure everyone has heard this story, but it fits here.

One day, there was a heavy rain and things started to flood. A guy saw this and said "God will save me". So he did nothing.

A man came to the door and said "It's flooding, we've got to leave, come with me." The guy said "No, God will save me".

The water got higher and a boat came. "You don't have much time, get in the boat and I'll get you out of here." The guy said "No, God will save me."

The water got so high the guy was forced on his roof. The water was almost completely over the house when a helicopter came. "Get in the basket, we'll get you to a safe area." The guy said "No, God will save me."

The guy drowned and went to the pearly gates. He said to God, "I prayed and prayed, but you let me drown. Why didn't you save me?"

God replied "I sent you a man, a boat, and a helicopter. You refused them all and chose to drown."

Those people that let that little girl die had access to the things that could save her life. They had every opportunity to help her live, yet they rejected them all and chose to let her die.

That is a sign of weak faith, demanding a miracle at their command. They saw God as a vending machine that will give them what they want if they just pushed the right button. Their ignorance cost them their daughter and should cost them their freedom as well. If the preacher encouraged them to reject medical care then he should be punished right along with them.

Of course I do. I am not told to only love people who think like me. I am commanded to love everyone - even fictional atheists! Big Grin

Parents of perfect faith? They were praying for her to live, the father even did CPR on her. Doesn't sound like their faith was to perfect. This little girl lost her life because her parents wouldn't get her medical help.

I hope so too, Joy. And I hope those parents do a long time behind bars for killing their child.
