This is my take on that, which could be wrong of course...God's original plan was one man and one woman - "For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife (not wives); and they shall become one flesh." We also know Solomon broke the rules of Deuteronomy 17:14-20 with his "many wives".

This is pure opinion...I think God allowed multiple wives so that the women of that time would be provided for. Their choices otherwise were slavery, prostitution, starving to death, etc. Since it is no longer necessary as we can take care of ourselves, the original plan of one man and one woman is obviously the best one.

Plus, I know having more than one husband would be a nightmare for me personally. I assume men, if they think past the bedroom Wink, would feel the same.

Amen Joy

BTW, Polygamy is against the law correct? If you are married to more than one woman you are charged with a crime of Bigamy unless you live in a place that allows for the practice to continue, so that is not even "Biblical" anymore in society...so my comparison is correct...it can be justified by the Bible but that doesn't make it the right thing to do...

And no, there is no static in my mainline -- I just have learned that I don't always get the answers I want...it is a leap of faith every day...And yes, my God is an awesome God...You may not know him or like him, but he still loves you...ok, I'm done preaching now...

So are they going to charge these parents with a crime?

Nothing has changed..
Today men no longer have many wifes...some men have one wife...along with many girlfriends on the side..The men today no longer are required to marry all the female consorts in which one entertains during their life...some would say at least this is one benefit of christianity....
Sorry! ladies...! I know! But men are physical beings...and sometimes our achilles heel is not in the foot...

Just like SOME men typically think with the other head...

You're asking me?

Using what you have told me - it's God's plan, but the parents were wrong - how the heck should I know?

If the Church would just explain it this way, membership would go through the roof - at least in the male population.

How about enough common sense to get a sick child the simple medicine she needs not to freaking die?

As a general rule, it does not, but when children die needlessly because their parents are at peace with watching them do so needlessly, well, I get just the slightest bit impatient with those "parents".

I agree with everything you said at this point.......we'll stop here. Big Grin

Grave error in judgment? That's the idiotic statement. They didn't make an error in judgment, unless you count believing in the Stone Age nonsense of prayer-healing. They murdered that child for their religion.

DF

I didn't say it was controversial what you said....I said it was stupid. These two people are idiots that lack basic common sense. If you want to call them idiots then fine, but we all know that you are attempting to undermind God....this had nothing to do with God, just the idiocy of two free thinking individuals.

Once again I must tell you, if you have ZERO understanding of the Bible, God, and what it means to be a God fearing Christian then please, save yourself the embarrasment of ever posting on a thread about any of these things.
These two people were idiots...there are a lot of idiots out there, some who believe in God and some that don't. Bottom line is these two were idiots who prayed for healing that didn't come.
As for being sad over the death of a child, or anyone for that matter. The knowledge of the fact that the child is now in heaven doesn't take away from the fact that we are human. Sadness over death is a natural human emotion. You're so smart, show me one passage in the Bible that says "When one becomes a Christian they lose all human traits." You know what, you won't find that. Get your head out of the sand.... or put it deeper if it'll keep you from making a fool out of yourself in your desperate attempt at the impossible task of disproving the existance of God.

Sure you can. You can understand from his "word" that medicine is evil.

The very pinnacle of weak, special pleading is when y'all go into detail about what god wants, replete with bible verses to back you up. Then, when god's negligence is abundantly evident, as in the case of this poor little girl, he's much too mysterious to comprehend.

This little girl was a victim of a fairy tale. It's just that simple. She could be alive right now, feeding cookies to a teddy bear, learning multiplication tables, except her parents chose to believe a primitive superstition.

And you guys think atheists are the weird ones.

DF

Simple.....
"God's negligence"......explain what you mean by that, because I'm sure it once again comes from the ignorance that many on your side of the isle share on God. But give it to me anyway, I'm sure it's awe-inspiring.

Most "Christians" have ZERO understanding, hence the reason this innocent little girl died while your "god" sat idle and did nothing. What a great god you have.

Oh? What gives you the right to question their religion convictions, Rielly? I assert that these parents have more "belief," more conviction in their pinky than you do in your sizable cerebellum.

The bible itself rewards the sacrifice of children in the name of god. Do I need to remind you of Abraham's attempted sacrifice of his own child by eviscerating the little boy with a rough stone tool.

How do you know that god didn't call these parents to do this same thing? What gives you the right to condemn these poor parents for their sacrifice to god?

This is ridiculous. You all who don't believe there is a God are blaming God for the actions of two inept parents? It's rather hard to do that if He doesn't exist for you.

The people that do believe in God on the forums are not blaming God. This is because there is no Biblical basis for the actions of these two individuals. They would need to take something out of context or ignore all the Bible has to say on this subject & even then it's a huge stretch for their conclusions. There is no case for the parents based on scripture. Please read that last sentence until it sinks in.

Furthermore, the Bible says we are to obey the law of the land. Unless I'm missing something, this would fall under homicide caused by negligence. They would be in error there as well.

Peter, I would like to address some of the statements you made. Mainly about GOD being neglegent. First of all everything that happens is for a reason. From the day we are born we are a day closer to death. 2nd God knew the exact time that this child would be called home to be with him, he knew the moment she entered this world. Did you ever stop to think instead of saying God is neglegent, maybe he was saving her from pain and heartache later in life that she would have been unable to handle? GOD LOVES HIS CHILDREN AND YES GOD LOVES SINNERS AND ATHIEST. The parents made a huge mistake and I do not agree with their decision at all but to say that all of this is GOD's fault is ridiculious!! God gives each of us a mind, a spirit and a soul and he gives us common sense. It is then up to us as to how we use these, either for his good or for evil. And as far as God goes he is not a supersitition, he is however a TRUE AND LIVING GOD and one day you will learn that for yourself when you stand face to face with him.

Unfortunately, Jesus and his tribal assistants ran out of miracles a few thousand years ago. The parents didn't make the connection, and now they have a sad situation....

What should society do with these devout Christians?

God failed them where science had a high probability of saving their daughter.

Should we just educate them? Or punish them?

What would Jesus do?
