At least the school superintendents are trying to look out for the best interest of those kids.

Once again, we do not see Florence City Schools on the list.
I hope it doesn't take a catastrophe to open Dr. Behrends & the school boards eyes!

tnt - Behrends is a woman... Wink I'm sure they will add to it before the night is over with. I was told to be "weather aware" between 3am and 8am and then again between about 5pm and 8pm.

So t--I guess you are about 2 or 3 hours behind our weather -- keep your head down!

Do you not think that a storm shelter school building is a better place than for a child to sit at home by themself. How in the world can someone look into the future and say that weather will be nasty at 6 am the following day, but will not be nasty at 8am? People are getting dumber not smarter. Too much information and the age we live in is allowing people to over think the real things. Cancel school all together. Why start it 2 hours later. Whats the point. Everytime they do this the weather diverts in a different direction. This allows the school system to claim no responsiblity whatsoever to the wellbeing of the school. They are depending on a weatherman in HSV to do there job. I applaud Dr. Berends for doing her job.

Cant.....but at least they wont be in the car, or on a bus at the time it is supposed to roll through. It might not get as bad as they say, but they are pretty accurate on the time frame these daysPeople are getting dumber not smarter. Please.

Yes, the storm is expected to roll through here in the AM. Yes, it may be as bad or worse as a thousand other storms we have been through. If you feel your child's safety is at stake, then please stay home with them. To insist that the school system be your nanny and dictate whether or not your child should go to school when it is not safe is beyond unreasonable.

Not every parent has the luxury of staying home every time it rains. If you all had your way, many children would be left at home alone while their parents went to work. Yes, believe it or not, some parents are stupid. No, seriously, they are.

The fact that Dr, Behrends is acting rationally when everyone else is panicking speaks volumes for her character and leadership.

Me? I will stay home with my son if I feel it is necessary. Otherwise he will go to a school.

Last week that over paid idiot superintendent of Lauderdale county schools let schools out 5 minutes early for no good reason. Some parents at Wilson that usually pick their kids up missed them because their kids got on the bus to come home because they did not know what to do.

That was a stupid call by the superintendent.

alabama, that same thing happened at Brooks. I was sitting in line to pick my kids up and the buses pulled away. Some dad that was also sitting in line got out of his car an ran over to the street and stopped the bus and got his children off the bus.

That was a dumb call who ever made it.

I think the decision should be made about one hour before the buses are schedule to pick up their first students.

Probably the Superintendents don't want to have to get up that early.

Actually, the winds are expected to reach 35 miles per hour tomorrow morning. Buses can not travel safely in winds that high, there is a real danger of them toppling over.T hat may be the reason for the delay in start time. Also if the weather is really bad say around 8 a.m. then school officials can cancel for the entire day.

Really??? I have a child at Wilson but did not know anything about this. It must have happened on a day that his dad was picking him up... but I still heard nothing about this... what was the reason? Weather????
