I don't think the term "white trash" is limited to caucasian people of a certain socio-economic status. I know people who are in the upper middle-class income and act like trash. I know of obscenely wealthy individuals who act like trash, mental-illness notwithstanding. It's true what Meanasasnake said, tats that you think look sexy on a 25 year old body look anything but on a 55 year old one. I think it is very permanent trend. And the whole laser removal thing doesn't work like an eraser or bleach. There will always be a scar. The only tattoo I'd ever get is a big DNR on my chest when I reach a "certain age".

Unfortunately, unlike unusual clothing, haircuts and dye jobs, the tattoos that teenagers and young adults are getting are pretty permanent.

Public perception of tattoos varies wildly today. The baby boomers and WWII generation are more likely to see tattoos as an indication of someone being an ex-con, a radical, or a gang member.

Generation x ers and gen nexers see tattoos more as self expression, or a method of identifying individuals as part of a group.

And of course, gangs such as MS-13 and Skinheads adore tattoos, and cover as much of their skin as possible.

They're still quite popular with the military, also.

And all age groups question the morals of people with explicit tattoos, especially in places that are not suppose to be shown in public, but somehow manage to be seen.

Here's a thought: If you don't like tattoos, don't get one. I won't judge you for not having any, so you don't judge me for mine. We'll get along so much better.

And mandomama...a "white trash" name that often pops up around our neck of the woods is Brittany something. Rich, moderately talented, and total trailer trash. So the whole socio-economic (at least economic thing) is proven by demonstration.

As to what a tattoo will look like on MY body when I'm 55 or 75, you have no clue. I keep myself in good condition and my three tattoos are still just as they were when I got them 15 years ago - they still look exactly like what they are... in other words, no hummingbirds looking like buzzards, etc. I also have no intention of ever having them removed so that isn't a concern for me either. I'm currently planning my fourth and fifth but as they are expensive ($300+) I'm saving up for them.

What you said about the humming bird to buzzard transformation reminds me of a Saturday Night Live skit. Anybody remember the one where the girl had the "Pretty Lady" tattoo that morphed into "Pretty Sad" as she aged? Or was that MAD TV?

See my reply to the orginal post in this thread. There is a link to the SNL skit with Amy Pohler that you are referring to here.

I'm not judging anyone but I don't like them. I don't let my daughter put those fake one on her face anymore. IMO it makes those young girls look trashy. Like I said - no judging - do as you please. But I can't help how I feel and hope you don't judge me either.

I have two. Wish I'd never got them, but it doesnt bother me. Why do you care what they look like when your 50 or 70???? No one that age should be wearing low rise jeans anyway so the only person that would see it is you, right? My daughter and son use the temporary ones at ball games and for play. But she sure is not going to put it above her butt crack or on her thigh or somewhere suggestive. They both ask me about mine, I told them they use a needle and it hurt like crazy and that was the end of that. Big Grin

I agree with zippadeedoodah. If you don't want a Tat don't get one. I believe one is not supposed to Judge another.
Also how dare anyone call a fake tattoo a TRAMP stamp for a child.
Definition:One who travels aimelessly about on foot, doing odd jobs or begging for a living, vagrant. Walk with a firm heaby step, to tracel on foot.
So I guess if it is a tramp stamp then accoridng to you who judge these are homeless people that are wearing some kind of identification(stamp) to let you know they are indeed homeless and begging. Would you offer them a job or food?
Remember do not judge. Also be careful who you call names she could end up being your daughter, sister, mother, etc.

tramp stamp n. 1. a tattoo on a woman, especially on the back at or below the waistline. 2. a hickey (on a man). Subjects: English, Derogatory, Slang

Double Tongued Dictionary

There are lots more references to the term "tramp stamp" on the internet, in the media and on TV everyday...it's indelibly stamped into modern language.

TDB,

$300 is expensive in California?

I thought money grew on trees out there.

The dudes spend that much on beer and gas for pickup trucks here in a single weekend.

Things must be tough out there if you have to save to raise 300 bucks for a tattoo.

No one has called anyone a name. People have simply remarked on the utter and vulgar inappropriateness of marketing tattoos that are to be applied to the lower waist / upper buttocks area to pre-teen girls. It is horrifying. Who wants some guy checking out their pre-teen's body? Further, who wants to give their pre-teen girl the notion that it is ok to adorn their lower back and upper buttocks to gain the attention of anyone, let alone men?? Lastly, the term "tramp" is defined in Webster's as:
1 a: vagrant b: a foot traveler c: a woman of loose morals; specifically : prostitute. Which is exactly what a person is advertising themselves to be by showing off the art on or right above their ass.

Well said TSC, that pretty much sums it up.
