Good thing you were able to move on and not be bitter about it.  Funny, I lived in Florida for 27 years and never did like it there. And when I moved away, I didn't hang out in any (formerly) local forums declaring my relief at having gotten away from a place where people TRULY go to die. I mean, seriously, it's not called "God's Waiting Room" for nothing. So, what compels you to hang out in a forum that's all about a place you obviously have so much distaste for?  You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear. |

Difference and diversity = Awesome Putting a temporary tattoo / sticker on your child's lower back to draw the attention of men = Awful TDB ~ no one said that you as an adult didn't have every right in the world to ink and pierce yourself to your heart's content. And you posted that we all have the right to hold the opinion that such adornments are trashy. So I don't see where there is any issue for you to be all cranky about. As to the labeling of "lower back tattoos" as being trashy, you can blame your fellow Californians over in Hollywood for making the statement in the hit film "Wedding Crashers". Then pick up a copy of Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture By Ariel Levy and maybe you'll get it. It used to be that we got upset about men making sex objects of us women. Hell, now we're saving them the trouble and making ourselves into objects for them. What does a visible Lower Back Tattoo say to a man? LOOK AT MY BODY AND OBJECTIFY ME AS A SEXUAL OBJECT! If that is what you want to say to the world, then go for it. Sugarcoat it any way you want, call it self-expression or individualism or even art. OK, whatever, but that doesn't make it less trashy. Get back to us in about 15 or 20 years when the tat is easing down your butt crack and let us know how sexy your husband thinks it is then. I had my daughters ears pierced at 5 weeks old and she didnt cry at all, never had one get infected. Maybe you are missing the point made by most here. A tatoo on an adult for whatever reason is your OWN business. Its like hair color or nail polish.......do what you will. But allowing a young girl to draw attention in ANY way to her private areas or make herself look sexual is unexcusable. Dont take everything so personal. I have tatoos. Some people dont like them....doesnt matter. What does matter is that moms start acting like MOMS and quit trying to be friends. Teach your daughter that her body is a temple and she needs to protect and respect it.  |

Oh, please don’t feel sad for me. Honestly, I cannot imagine a tattoo having that same effect on me. I find such “decorations” distracts from the very areas I do get passionate about. And I don’t need a sign telling me where to look. I equate such as a scenic view being blocked by a SCENIC VIEW sign. Nothing surpasses natural beauty. I like art. And I know that my taste in art has changed over the years. Most of which I bought in my 20s is either long since gone or regulated to closets while my current interest decorate my walls. And even that is sometimes moved from room to room. Therefore, I cannot imagine that some cartoon chosen 40 years ago would represent me today. Or having it in the same location. Which brings up another observation I’ve made. Many folks who get one will get another. Why? Because they’ve grown tired of the first one. The newer one is always the favorite. But what confounds me most of all is, if the recipient of said “art” cannot see it, what is the purpose of having it? Funniest one I ever saw was on a Navy Chief. It was of a rooster on the side of his shin. The purpose was, according to him, so he could tell the girls he had a **** below his knee. Noli nothis permittere te terere |

Hey, feel sad for whoever you want but it's certainly not going to affect me one little bit. I don't know how old YOU are or what YOU look like, but I am over 40 already and my skin is still hanging in there just fine thanks so I don't see a problem with my tattoos holding firm as well. My husband will be 60 in less than 4 years and his tattoos are just as sexy now as they were when he got them. We live a healthy and active lifestyle and won't allow ourselves to "go down hill". I think IF you were able to ask him, he'd say that he can't wait to see how my lovely tattoos will look 20 years from now, especially my soon to be tramp stamp! |

Top Down, this is just a place for us/you to give our/your opinions but you seem to be taking it too personal. We can't help how we feel and you I guess you are happy with your opinion. But like bud and DHS - don't feel sorry for us. I don't think our "view" has anything to do with the area we live in. I've lived other places and have had the same opinion. TSC and others have given statements that many of us agree with - that should really help you understand where we're coming from. There is too much sexual perversions going on in the world - we can't understand why parents would want to help increase those chances in any way. We just care about the kids.

I completely agree with you about children. What I have a hard time with is that people seem to feel justified in giving me their opinions when it comes to my tattoos. I'm no kid...I'm retired from both the military and from a police department. They are well-hidden when at work, and come out to play when I lift weights, run, or swim. For me, it's not about showing off my art to the rest of the world; it's mine to enjoy. Besides, my wife likes them. Keep tattoos, piercings, and low-rise jeans off prepubescent kids; I think that's admirable. But note that personal comments about tattoos on adults begin to stray into the same area as telling a woman a particular pair of pants makes her butt look huge...rude, not always advisable, and sometimes downright dangerous. The problem really isn't the tattoo at all. The problem lies within the clothes that reveal the tattoo. If the child is wearing low-rise jeans and a shirt that shows midrift then the problem started long before the application of the tattoo. My son likes temporary tattoos. He has one on the back of his shoulder but no one knows it because it is covered by clothes. It's just something fun for him and that is all. If my daughter decided she wanted a temporary tattoo for play, I would have no problem with it because I know no one would be able to see it.
