It sickens me to think that gorgeous property will be used to expand the landfill if the city is able to get the proper permits. I remember the uproar when the dump was first proposed at this site. It STILL makes no sense to me to put a city dump uphill from a beautiful natural resource like Cypress Creek and the surrounding area. Have you forgotten that Florence gets its drinking water from Cypress Creek. I pray that restrictions regarding dumps have tightened enough that the city will be unable to obtain necessary permits. The areas bordering the creek across from the dump are certainly beautiful, high-dollar property. I'd hate to live there and wake up to the stench every day, especially in the hot summer months. Mmmmm!! The smell of ripening garbage in the morning... I would be surprised if the Mussleman family - developers of Wildwood On Cypress, weren't in attendence at the council meetings. Just what the city needs right now - lowered property values.

I wish UNA could have gotten it.

Were there bids or was this a done deal?

I second huntsvillian's comments. I just bought a home on that creek in the Spring across from the Country Club. It's a sickening thought. I don't know why the city wanted a dump this close to town anyway. Doesn't look like it makes future development of the area appealing. Not to mention that there's a cemetery on that property dating back to the early 1800's and used as recently as 1994.

Huntsvillain is not aware of their geography of cypress creek. The Florence Water Treatment plant is up stream of the country club. So only pollutation is from underwood-petersville and cloverdale areas that would affect the drinking water.
I would also be in a uproar if the city didn't pick up garbage on a weekly bases. It would be a terrible sight to have a neighbor that threw their garbage in the back yard.
I pray also the restricitions of disposing of garbage will tighen. Restriction 1: Force people into recycling and that will lessen the weight that goes into the landfill. So really it is our fault as a community that the city if having to buy more space for a landfill.
Hopefully the price that we all have to pay as a community for garbage disposal will not turn away the interests of wanting someone wanting to move here to retire.
