mean -- I wasn't necessarily referring to you -- but if those stilletto heels fit, try them on for size....

Just because you didn't like him or think as highly of him as I did (or others) that doesn't negate our opinion of him...tear the opinion down if you want too -- that is your 1st Amendment Right and you can thank Mr. Heston for stumping for those rights years ago...

Amazing how hero worship denies the existance of flaw, or even the possibility that such worship is not universal or could possibly be subjective. Almost as amazing is the inability to determine the sex of posters.

I don't see how lamenting the death of a person one has respect for constitutes hero worship. No one suggested you had to like the man. Feel free to share us with your visceral hatred towards the man but don't expect it to change anything.

I expect nothing. I would suggest that you read the previous posts. I am simply holding my own.

They don't make men like that anymore -- as evident by a lot of the comments on this thread...hope people have as much respect for some of them when they pass on as they have shown for him...

Without respect to the sex of any poster - When I die, I would imagine being dead would be a bigger disappointment than not being "respected" by the posters on the TimesDaily forums. Thats just me.

That was kind of the point meanasasnake -- the thread is about Charlton Heston and I'm sure was intended as a memorial, not a roast, but you want to make this thread all about you and your opinion of him and that is fine, but I was just taught to speak kindly of the dead...but since this is all about you -- go on, keep talking...knock your socks off...

I still feel that Mr. Heston did more for this country and love this Nation -- and should be commended for the work he did on so many levels over the years. That is my opinion and I'm sticking to it..."holding my own" as you termed it...I prefer "sticking to my guns" -- pun intended... Cool

Being a spokesman for the NRA is not my idea of a great "contribution". For you it is. Fine. Once again, I own guns and know how to use em quite well. I am not, however, a hysterical gun owner who has been brainwashed into thinking that there is someone lurking in the shadows looking to infringe my rights. While there are some loons who would like to ban guns, they are a tiny minority and are countered on the other side by nuts who want a tank in the garage. Somewhere in the middle are the American people. We have gun regulations and we should. Being guaranteed rights of gun ownership does not mean those rights are not regulated. Mr. Heston chose to become a political activist. As such he became part of the polarized political climate in our nation. I hate to break up the little love fest.

Mean you must be an employer that grades their employees on the last 6 weeks of their work history instead of the past year when you are doing their evaluation.

As was previously posted, Mr. Heston was a soldier and served this Nation in WW2 before becoming a political activist for our 1st Amendment Rights and our Civil Rights as well as our Gun Rights. He didn't get into the gun debate until the late 80s and early 90s.

It's not a love fest -- it is a WHOLE STORY fest -- you want to beat the man for his opinion on gun rights. While I agree with him to a point I didn't buy into him hook line and sinker, but that is where my common sense as a human being and citizen of this great Nation come into play. I know better than to believe everything I read...You don't care to see the rest of the story so I give up -- you will continue to bring up the gun rights stuff and only that as his legacy...there was more to the man then prying the rifle "from his cold dead hands"...

Like all political activists, Mr. Heston chose his audience. I am not one of his fans. I base this on the WHOLE of his effort, not just his NRA job.

I am not a fan of the NRA, but I think his involvement in the civil rights movement is admirable.

I bet a lot of the people on this thread who are praising him for his political involvement are the same ones who criticize people like Susan Sarandon and the Dixie Chicks for being outspoken on politics.

Can't stand the Dixie Hicks or Susan Sarandon but I wouldn't trash them if they died or delight in it.

I like Susan Sarandon as an actor and she has made some good efforts in the political arena that I commend her for. I don't always agree with her, but that is my issue not yours.

The Dixie Chicks are outspoken but have not done much else to help politics except bash Bush so I don't see them in the same light as Susan Sarandon, let alone, Charlton Heston...

But like skymaster said, I wouldn't trash them if they died or be happy they were gone -- they had some good songs in their early years...

A simple question, who are you a fan of and why?
