Florence transit system we defently are a large enough city to have one.

If gas prices continue to go up and Florence started a transit system how much would you be willing to pay per week for a ride to work and back.

with as spoiled as folks are here, I don't see anyone waiting 5 minutes on a bus, 2 blocks from home, and having to walk from a bus stop 2 blocks to work. as spread out as things are, the network would have to be extensive. I don't even think birmingham has a transit authority anymore, do they? its good in theory, but I just don't see it happening here.

and to justify my vote, I only spend about $20 a week on gas. I work 1.5 miles from home.

As a nurse working in home health, I don't have that luxury, but there are some options available right now for others.

I know NACOLG has buses that run regular route for shopping. I don't know how one gets on the list, but it would be worth a try for some.

Also, UNA lets anyone ride their buses, I understand. They don't cover huge areas, but the fare is only a dime one way, or was a couple of years ago.

cool! the last few times I've been down there, I never saw a bus.

I never hear anyone mention the gas guzzling SUV's that everyone is driving these days. Do y'all think those have nothing to do with gas prices? I have a small, fuel efficient car. I hate that gas is so high, though it really isn't that awful for me. I can go to Huntsville to and fro at least 4 times for $45.00. Does no one believe in the principle of supply and demand? And do you not think that your gas guzzler is contributing to the high gas prices? This is mostly a rhetorical question. Just something to think about that is---unbelievably--NEVER mentioned as a reason for high fuel costs.

I've hated SUVs since they became popular. if you need the room, get a station wagon or mini-van. 75% of SUV drivers got them because they were the in thing. every time I pull up to the pump and one is next to me, I always make a point to ask what a fill up costs, and how long it lasts. then I smile as my pump cuts off at about $28. I just filled up this morning for the first time in 2 weeks, and in mixed driving I got 30mpg.

It ain't going to make no difference how high the price of gas goes up, people are still going to drive. Same holds true about people buying goods that are not American made.

thats what I noticed about living in China, one can go almost anywhere in the country by train,bus,subway,taxie and I think Hong Kong has the worlds best system, you buy a card and put money credit on it and when you get on mass transet,it logs you and deducts the cost at whatever station you get off at, it also works at McD,KFC,7-11,park and shop,you can go anywhere and not carry money! and in China the bus station as always next to the train station..they always want to know if I own a car in US..

Florence Really does need some sort of public transportation

Even the mass transit system in Southern California is pathetic. A 22 mile bus trip from my house to my office will take nearly two hours.

I'm griping right now because I am having to go to Huntsville once a week for classes, for 12 weeks. I drive a very good economical type car, but still it's hard to pay out Hubby's hard earned money for gas. That money can better be spent on something else. I'll be so glad when the weekly trips to Huntsville are over. I don't drive very much cause I dont have many places to go . I guess thats a good thing.

I drive 600 miles a week right now. I doubt we will ever see the price go down though....
