I was at the Wilson vs Rogers game last friday night and I saw the worst display of sportmanship I have ever seen at a high school football game. The Wilson parents chased the referees to their car and were cussing and just acting like complete rednecks. Then the next morning the head football coach of Wilson talked about how he was going to send the tape of the game into the state in Montgomery, What good will that do him? The game is over and Rogers is going to the playoffs so why not leave it at that and just be an adult about it and grow up.

First of all dh113090...Adults chasing after refs to curse and complain does not mean that they are what you call a REDNECK. A lot of football parents in this area personally know most of the refs and it's not uncommon to see something like that happen. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but it does happen. Here is a good definition of your "so called REDNECK!!" "Being a redneck is being proud of your roots and a true love for your father’s name. Where family and friends are first and strangers are just a vague, dismal blur in the distance. Rednecks are good ol' boys/gals who usually live in the south (usually in the country) and also tend to have a southern accent. Their necks are red and maybe their arms, too, cause they work hard and out in the heat all day." So now!! Since you have a real good definition of what a REDNECK is....I think that you need to apologize to us who are proud to be a REDNECK!!!

well happy hopper i am sorry i offended you..... first of all it is not a common thing to see parents chase the refs to their car and act like a bunch of complete idiots... 2nd of all what would be the word for that kind of behavior so i can be politically correct? I would hate to have to hurt your feelings again evidently you feel really strong on this matter. And who do I need to apologize to? the Wilson Parents or the rednecks b/c i am confused, i am not attacking rednecks i am just posting my feelings of the behavior of the parents.

Being a teacher, coach, and parent I have a couple of comments for the masses. First of all like someone else said, what good did it do to display your "fit of rage" like that? None the ref's wen't back and changed the call. The score still stands. Second the students of those parents now think 'That's how I need to handle myself when I don't get what I want". So we as teachers have to try and control this anger they think is "ok" at school, because they have seen it from their parents. Whatever happened to humility and setting an example! That's what I have to do as a teacher and a coach when someone gets mad at a decision of mine. Redneck or no redneck it never hurts to keep your mouth shut sometimes! Might also save a little embarrassment of yourself at the same time!

I was there, seen what happened, spoke with one of those "parents" and can shine a little truth to this matter.

First: The ref's in that game were a joke. I consider myself a fan and I think I could have called the game just as well. Now I'm a Rogers fan but the play in question that raised most of the concern was a punt return in the final minutes of the game. Wilson had the ball and in a third down situation threw a pass, it was almost intercepted by a Rogers player therefore bringing up a forth down play for Wilson.
Wilson elected to punt. Two guys were back deep to recieve for Rogers and when the man closer to the line of scrimage seen the punt was going over his head he turned to watch the guy behind him catch it. The punt came up short and hit the ground close the reciever in front. The ball bounced around and the reciever was hit by a Wilson player and then hit the ball. Now by rule it is a live ball and whoever pickes it up gets the ball. Wilson picked up the ball and the play was whistled dead. The ref never seen the Rogers player touch or get hit by the ball and called it dead resulting in a Rogers first down. This is where the Wilson fans got mad. Rogers scored a field goal on the drive and gave them the lead with the score of 16-13. Rogers kicked off and gave Wilson the ball back with very little time left to play. Wilson was unable to score before time ran out and therefore lost the game.

Second: After the game I ran into an old frined that I used to work with and haven't seen in a few years. We talked about the game and the refs and he told me when I walked up that he was telling the principle he was sorry for his actions. He told me he was talking to the refs about that call all the way to their locker room. He told me that he let them have it and that they really missed the calls out there that night. The principle told him to back off and leave them along. He did as he was told and walked away. My friend was quickly convicted of his actions and went back to apoligize for his actions and this is what I walked up to. He told me that he was totaly out of character and felt really bad about his words. He is a good Christian man and just got a little heated like some of the others did.

Third: I don't know how many others followed or spoke with the refs after the game but I know my frind went back and apoligized for his actions and would do the same for anybody he offended.

First of all my nephew plays football at Wilson and yes I was at that game. The ref's were a joke. The play that made me the most upset was when they called pass interference on Wilson when they guy was not even near the Roger's player catching the ball. That is a time the crowd did get upset. I don't care what the score says, Wilson won that football game in my eyes and if I was Chris ( the head coach ) I would send in the tape to. And I agree 100% that ppl do take things to far in football games. But like I said, THE REF'S WERE A JOKE!!!

Second..... I'am from the country and did graduate from Wilson but I'm not a REDNECK!!! There is a difference in being a blooming *** idiot and a country girl. Yes I know ppl work outside and get their neck red but that is not why they are call a redneck. City boys get their necks red also.

Third.... When I was walking out, I did not see parents doing that. I'm not saying they didn't but that was very tacky of them to do that.

Fourth.... If this was a college game, say AL or AU, and this sort of stuff happened, would we not be having the same conversation? High School, College or NFL football, it's all going to be the same and everyone is going to get pi$$ed off at something. Heck even Nascar.

There are salt-of-the-earth rednecks and there are stupid, trailer-trash, mannerless rednecks. They may or may not be the same people. I don't think DH owes anyone an apology. The stupid redneck parents owe the kids an apology.

I know you cannot be blocked into the kicker and get a penalty, so maybe the ref just misunderstood the rule to say you cannot be blocked into a live, kicked, ball????

I was there, and a Rogers fan, and it was a missed call. Maybe we can push for instant replay in high school. Get to it boosters.

Hey GoFish..I live in a mobile home but that doesn't make me trailer trash, thank you very much. You can step on toes real quick when you start throwing out words like that. I may not have a nice brick or vinyl house but my home is paid for and it serves its purpose. I have seen "trailer trash" so to speak but you have to be specific on that. And a redneck is NOT trailer trash. You totally misread into all of this.
The term "redneck" is often misunderstood by those north of the Mason-Dixon line. Many Yankees misunderstand this beloved term of endearment and treat the word as if it were some kind of insult. A true Southerner understands that achieving the state of Redneck is a noble pursuit.
Being a "real" Redneck is so much more than driving a pick-up truck and naming your dog Bubba. A true Redneck does not feel the need to impress people with the outward trappings of superficial wealth and a real Redneck is perfectly comfortable in an Armani suit or a stained t-shirt.

Redneck art is now being sold in the top galleries, and make sure to read by notes redneck animal art.

Rednecks truly feel sorry for the poor b**ta*ds who worked their a**-off for 8 years in college only to become a corporate slave, all this hard work just to get a decent BMW and Rolex. You see, a real Redneck never feels the need to brag and they would not think of mentioning to hard working yuppies that their 80 acre farm is with eight million dollars of that they have $5,000,000 in farm equipment that they only use a few weeks each year. Without trying to sound too much like Jeff Foxworthy (a great comedian, but a tad misinformed about Redneck theology), let me try to explain the basic tenets of achieving a state of Redneck:

Sense of inner Peace - The true Redneck is at-peace with the world. They always feel safe (not just because they have guns in every room of their home), and they are not concerned with what others may think of their Redneck lifestyle.

High sense of Duty and Honor - A true Redneck will defend their Sacred Honor and will not tolerate those who disparage their families, traditions or loved-ones. Many a surprised New Yorker has pondered this while visiting the Emergency Room after flipping-off a Redneck.

Disregard for Time - A true Redneck does not respect man-made timelines and lives life one day at a time. A true redneck may put a car up on-blocks for a decade before restoring it.

Disregard for man-made Mores - A true Redneck will follow their tastes and desires without regard for social customs and "appropriate" behavior. Because the Redneck is not constrained by outsider opinions and Madison Avenue dictates about taste, they are free to embrace whatever they like without guilt or remorse.

Honors their Ancestors - A real redneck know details about every one of their ancestors who fought in the Civil War and American Revolution. An ardent patriot, a true redneck will always fly the Star Spangled Banner right above the Stars and Bars on every national holiday. A true redneck will also participate in ware reenactments as a way of honoring the redneck sacrifices of their ancestors.

Funny that this became a referendum on the term 'redneck'.

I would refrain from calling the parents ugly names until I knew if they apologized, and if they were remorseful. Any of us can lose our temper and then be sorry.

Otherwise, how about 'Cracker'?

What is wrong with people that live in trailors? Why anyone has to call others insulting names is very small minded I think.
