Hall of Famer |
North Jackson rolled over the Brooks Lions tonight by a margin of 36 to 19. Other area teams performed better as Deshler led Fairview 56 to 0 at the half, the final score was 56 to 23 as the coach played every kid on the bench.
Muscle Shoals continues to win, downing Ft. Payne 38 to 14. Russellville stopped Southside (Gadsden) to advance in the play offs. American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. |

it wasn't exactly a crushing........brooks had the lead with about 3 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. and n.jackson pulled away in the 4th.
i once had an awkward moment..... just to see what it was like. |

Well it wasn't cause I wasn't pulling for them. Sad, but they played a good season.

That's why they play the 4th quarter... Brooks consistently has a good team and I said they were crushed because North Jackson scored nearly twice as many points as Brooks when the final horn sounded. This message has been edited. The score is a bit deceiving. Brooks was crushed by Deshler, not by North Jackson. NJ tacked on a late score to make it appear worse than it was.
Brooks injuries really caught up with them. Namely Alex Mitchell. He was nowhere near 100% but played his heart out. Brooks did lead late in the 3rd but the real problem with Brooks is that spread offense. The spread is never overly successful at any level. If you play a team with equal athletes and decent corners and you don't have Julio Jones or someone like that at receiver, then you're just screwed. For years I have railed against that offense and I am seeing more and more people (brooks and auburn fans namely) come out and say that same. The shame of it is, Brooks started the game using more of a flexbone offense and was moving the ball consistently and fairly easily against North Jackson, only being hurt by penalties. Then for whatever reason, the coaching staff decided to go back primarily to the spread... the rest is history. Regardless, North Jackson is probably the most talented team in region 7, but they were caught napping against Plainview and just couldn't get going against Guntersvilles defense, so thats why Brooks had them in the first round. No excuses though, Brooks could have won this game. The spread has to go. ------------------------------------ Send me a PM to talk about High School Football! |

As a parent of one of the senior players, I want to congratulate the team on a great season and wish all of them luck in the future.
Good luck to North Jackson and the other teams in the playoffs. MonkeysUncle...thank you for the comment on Alex..he did play his heart out. |

I will never understand this kind of coaching decision..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Congratulations to the Brooks SENIORS, and to Brooks football program...winning is a tradition. American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. |

good analysis of the game , uncle .......and good point about the use of the spread offense. i'm from the k.i.s.s. (keep it simple, stupid) school of thought and have always believed this applies even more so at the high school level. a football team could never go wrong by running the wing-t , split veer , wishbone , etc..... keep the playbook relatively simple and stress EXECUTION..... in the movie 'remember the titans', the coach says : " i run the veer offense. it's only six plays , but it's like novacaine ,give it time and it always works." i once had an awkward moment..... just to see what it was like. |
