Sen. John McCain called Saturday for a presidential campaign that is more like a respectful argument among friends than a bitter clash of enemies, and said he is better able than either of his Democratic rivals to govern across party lines.

"I have a record unmatched by either Senator Hillary (Rodham) Clinton or Senator (Barack) Obama of reaching across the aisle," he said. He said his record demonstrates "the environment for working together is clearly there."

From what I have seen, he is more likely to get his wish from Obama than from Hillary.

That's a safe bet. As much as I dislike Obama's policies, he is clearly more capable of running an intellectual, clean, issues-oriented campaign.

The Clintons are the very definition of dirty politics.

I have mixed feelings about the Dem race. I think McCain will beat Hillary, but she will tear the country to pieces in her desperate effort to win. I think Obama can beat McCain with a dignified campaign. Regardless, I'd prefer McCain as president, but between the two dems, Obama would be so much a better reflection of the USA around the world.

I try to keep my chin up and continue to believe that our country is so strong that not even one of this threesome can cause it too much harm. I wonder if I'm fooling myself.
