Everybody Knows My Name |
I saw another thread somewhere about how the local BBQ joints have stopped selling their slaw in grocery stores.
Does anyone have a good recipe? Hot and mild? |

OK here's what I found
1 gallon cabbage grated 3 large onions chopped 2 bell peppers chopped 3 cups sugar 3 carrots grated 1 cup white vinegar 1 tablespoon salt 1 teaspoon black pepper 1 1/2 teaspoon red pepper (more or less according to taste) 3 cups mustard (24 ounce jar) Mix all ingredients & heat to a boil. Boil 20 mins. Put in sterilized jars. Makes about 9 pints. I haven't had good results trying to double this recipe so do separate batches or hide some back.. It's Five O'Clock Somewhere.... |

Your welcome I know my grandmother used to make a wonderful vinegar slaw, but her recipes where in her head and I dont recall ever seeing her measure anything, plus there were several times I caught the secret smile that meant she added something behind my back. Makes for a lot of experimenting.
