I may have missed a forum concerning the Redbay water park and if so I apologize, but what an embarrasment. I cannot believe I took my family to that horrible place because we were invited by someone else to go. within the first 10 minutes someone was arrested, there are truck back seats in the womens bathrooms, the main pool is falling apart. The lifeguards had their straps off on their swimsuits and could have been easily pulled off of them. there are NO CERTIFIED ADULT lifeguards all are high school students. Don't ever go there. It is well worth a few dollars more to go to Decatur to the Water Park where it is clean, well maintained and not a scary place to be.

Thanks for the heads up! This doesn't bode well for the Red Bay Space program.

The last time I was by there it looked as though it was across the street from housing projects. Not the redneck kind.

Sounds like that place is right on track with the houseboat dealer down there.

Thanks for posting this. I was wanting some feedback since my family was thinking about going there. Looks like we will not be making that trip!

I agree that it is definatley worth driving to Point Mallard in Decatur for a more cleaner and safer time!

Red Bay has a population of 3,300. I'm not sure why you expected the water park to look anything like Point Mallard? For a town the size of Red Bay, however, it's great and they are proud to have it. Much like the pools in this area, the lifeguards there are teenagers. I also doubt they expected visitors from 50 miles away. They were probably as shocked to see you as you were to see the size of the park. Big Grin

Are you aiming your comment at me? If so, you are mistaken. I have not been, I was thanking butterflier for her input. I don't care if they are teenagers, I would just hope they are trained lifeguards! It's 39 miles actually to Red Bay from where I live. Wink

Attention: Let's inject some facts into the comments--the lifeguards have to be certified. If they weren't the town/owner could be sued. Even the lifeguards at the Lexington pool are certified!

I will answer. I didn't imply that I was expecting it to be like Point Mallard I was recommending that people go to Point Mallard instead. Yes it is across the street from the projects. And yes they do expect visitors from Florence and surrounding areas or they would not advertise on T.V. and have one of the local news channels feature it on a past show. If they are proud to have it then fix it and make it a place people would like to go. As for lifeguards. They are certified and attend high school. Their straps were off and their suits could have been easily pulled off very unprofessional. You will not see this in this area or at Point Mallard. Also the lifeguards in this area are mostly College Students with some High School Students.I would think that in a true life or death situation an adult (college or higher) would be able to handle it better than a teenager. Meaning both (students and adults) need to be on duty at all times. I never said the lifeguards were not certified.

I was talking to butterflier & in case you can't tell, I'm a Franklin County native. Big Grin

butterflier, they don't have the funds to be up to Point Mallard standards & never have. For Red Bay, this park is fine.

And yes, FV is correct, they get their lifeguard permits just like everyone else does. Since they went through the training, if someone is in trouble, straps down or up, they do the job. I took that training as a teenager & would not have hesitated to react at that age. JMHO

I can't help but laugh about the 'projects' across the street since they've been there as long as the pool has been there. It's a poor area with few jobs. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet live over there & would have taken you in if you were in need, even if it meant they ate less. I'm sure there are some that belong behind bars over there as well, but I'd say the same thing about our nicest neighborhoods here. JMHO

Give the girls a break. They live in freakin' Red Bay. A great tan is all they have going this summer. I really do see your point. My Mom wouldn't even let me wear a two-piece, let alone walk around with the straps down. So, it's possible that management doesn't even know this...weeeelll, that or they let it go due to an increase in traffic to flirt with the lifeguards. But I'd say most likely, they just don't see it as a big deal.

You might consider contacting whoever runs that place & tell them your concerns as a visitor there. Since they are advertising (haven't seen the ads myself but I watch very little TV), they would appreciate the feedback.
