I hate (HATE) shopping for jeans. I worked in the apparel industry on all sides ~ sewing, technical design, patterns, product development, testing, and then software design and implementation. After all of that, I never could get a straight answer on why all of the brands can't use the same size scale and why in the world I can't find a pair of jeans that fit!!! Why am I one size in these pants and 3 sizes larger in those pants? Why do these pants come up high in the front, but not cover my butt? Why on earth can't I find britches that don't gap out in the back waistband? And someone please tell me where these 6'8" women are! Because of them I have to get most of my jeans tailored! Anywho, I love Consumer Reports and they recommend this site: http://www.zafu.com/ to find the perfect jeans. There weren't many questions and when I was done they found 40 differnt jeans that would fit me. #1 was Lucky Brand. Um... I'm not paying $98 for jeans.

I have on my favorite Levi's today and here is what they have to say about them (in relation to how I answered their questions):

How this jean fits YOU

Waist ~ The cross cut waistband of the 550 sits just below your waist and follows the curve of your back for no gaping. The front rise will seem a bit long and may cause extra fabric to bunch up at your crotch.

Hip & thigh ~ The easy fit through the hip and thigh gives you the room you need while the stretch denim helps to sculpt your shape. A classic boot cut, the leg shape on this jean has a modern look without being too extreme. If you want an extra slenderizing touch, look for a darker wash like the Blue Violet shown here.

Seat ~ You will have the room you need through the seat. It won't be tight but you will feel it pull down a bit at the waist. Signature Levi's back pockets add the final touch. They sit in just the right place to make your seat look rounder and firmer.

They are dead-on! In contrast, those $98 pants shoud fit like this:

Waist ~ Sitting just below the waist, the straight waistband is pitched higher in the back for a secure fit that doesn't pull down when you move. If your pet peeve is that bunching fabric at your front crotch, you'll be happy to see that even though it's a little long you won't notice it on this jean.

Hip & thigh ~ The rigid denim is washed down for a soft and comfortable feel. It works perfectly with the Easy Rider's regular fit through the hip and relaxed thigh. The leg shapes in slightly at the knee and is set off with a classic boot cut opening.

Seat ~ Cut more generously in the seat, this jean works well for you without depending on stretch fabric to make it fit. The back yoke has a nice shape that, along with the slightly angled back pockets, accentuates the curve of your butt.

I don't know how much I want my pants to accentuate the butt, but aside from that I may head over to the mall and try some on at Belk, Parisian, or The Buckle just for giggles. I'll let you know if this is the site to end our jeans drama and trauma forever or just another false hope!

I totally agree with you on the size thing! American Eagle is THE worst, and the sizes keep getting smaller every season! as for those 6'8" women, I'm 5'10"(most of that length being in my legs) and get super excited when pants are long enough, so i guess I'm one of those amazons you were referring to!

Hmmm... you are 5'10" and I am 5'4". How on earth do the people at the GAP think we can wear the same pants? I wish women's pants were like men's and had the inseam length listed. They can keep the 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 12 sizing so that it is still "discreet" but give us more than "ankle", "regular", and "tall" for inseams!

I wish I had your height. This is not a short person's world!

TSC thanks for posting that weblink for Zafu! This site is AWESOME for getting jean brands that will fit to personal body type. I went thru the questionaire and got the names of several brands of jeans to fit, several below$30.
I just went into the store, straight to the jeans section and KNEW exactly what I was looking for before having to go thru the ritual of trying on at least 5 pairs before finding ones that fit.
I tried the ones recommended ,and EUREKA!!! Fit perfect.

TSC, just curious, did you actually find a store here who carries Lucky Brand jeans? I bought two pair when I was in B'ham, but I haven't seen any here, not even at Parisian.

I was like you about paying 100 bucks for jeans until a friend of mine convinced me to try them. Oh, my. I love them! And they last forever. (Well, it helps that my fat butt can't get in them now since I've gained 15 pounds!) But they really do make your butt look fabulous. Smiler

Hey Lawgrl, THE BUCKLE at Parkway Place Mall carries them. I *think* the Parisian and Dillard's there does, too. I still haven't got any. I have 15 lbs to lose (what a coincidence, it must be a magic number) and I swore I will not buy any new clothes until I lose it! I stopped smoking a year ago and... well... the dryer ain't shrinking my clothes, the refrigerator is!

Holler when you come to Huntsville, and I'll buy you a latte at Starbucks!

I am 5'10 too. Whats crazy is alot of times I can just wear the avg and not the tall at Gap and old navy. I am wondering who is buying these tall sizes? If I buy tall they dont just scrub the ground, I wear off an inch or two

Another reason I love the Bridge Street Town Centre in Madison/H'ville (It's off Madison Pike). They have a Lucky Brand Store!

I have been wearing Lucky Jeans for years. I know I am a man but I had to comment. They seem to last me the longest. But I buy most of mine used since I got tired of the 100.00 for a pair. They fit my wife better than any jeans she can buy too. She does the same as I.

I HATED to jeans shop. I have a larger waist and small hips and butt. I would try on 20 pairs of jeans and end up picking the ones that fit the least badly.

I couldn't believe it when I finally found custom made jeans. I get mine at Make Your Own Jeans. They start at just $48.00. You have total control over the style, fit, cut, rise, length, everything. I just love them. You even have choices of different cute pockets and other embellishments. They look great and they're so comfortable because they fit perfectly.
Make Your Own Jeans

Besides having jeans that fit perfectly and feel great, I NEVER have to go jeans shopping again!!

My favorite jeans are from Express. They fit in the waist, butt, and thighs and come in a short length.
