I took my daughter shopping this weekend in hopes of finding her some shorts for the summer. After hitting every store in the mall, we found that shorts come in two lengths this season: show your butt or cover your knees. Now I am not Polly Prude and don't expect my daughter to walk around covered from neck to knees. She has Soffe shorts that she wears for majorette practice and a few dresses and skirts that hit at mid-thigh. Why can we not find shorts that hit at mid-thigh? What happened to the 4" inseam? Anyone else going through the same thing? She'll be going to ACESS (summer school for accelerated credit) from June 1 to June 30 and I know it will be hot as blazes in those classrooms. I don't want her to have to wear pants every day!

It's even worse for guys because they don't even have short shorts. It's a knee length or longer. I'd check a outdoors store.

I wish I could help. It seems that it is that way in the junior's department and women's departments as well. I went in to try and find myself some shorts... and ... they were TOO short for someone as old as myself. I just did not even think to try them on... I like bermuda shorts... and I have a few that are just mid-thigh... I know for sure that JCPenney has some bermuda shorts... I have to agree though... the shorts are ridiculously short this year.

I just got back from Old Navy and YAY! they had some shorts that are not super short or super long!!! Yesterday was such a burnt run! I was about to lose my mind. There were shorts at Hollister, Abercrombie, and American Eagle that wouldn't pass length inspection at Hooter's. What parents are letting their daughters run around out in public wearing these?

Thanks Ron, we checked Mountain High Outfitters, but they only had cargo style, repelling (with the carbiner clip loop on the back) or dri-fits and we really wanted some plain old khaki or denim ones.

Whatever happened to the good old days of Duckhead shorts?!

I was going to suggest Old Navy, or Gap. The only thing about Gap is how expensive. Walmart has a Fadded Glory brand that I like also.

I used to love Old Navy & Gap, but then the clothes at Old Navy started to go downhill in quality and the prices at Gap started to go uphill without any reason. I'm glad I gave them another shot!

I love TJMAxx, Marshall's, Ross, and Kohl's for myself, but taking my teenager in any sort of department store ends up costing me a lot of money. "I need shorts" will turn into "and earrings, and a watch, and a new bedspread, and look at these shoes, and I need these towels for my bathroom, and mommy, please, I'll never ask for anything again if I can get this Eiffel Tower print, and the matching Arc d'Triumphe print..." And if you hit it right, you can get out of those mall stores cheaper than Target! Smiler

I've gotten a few good pairs of shorts from Woolrich. Not sure about their girls shorts.
