I have very large pores and very oily skin. I see a dermatologist and treat my acne. But what can I buy over the counter to make my pores smaller? Even when I put on make-up you can still see them? Anybody have any ideas, home remedies? anything?

You are probably the only person who notices your pores, and it sounds like you take care of your skin. Pores come in all sizes, just embrace yours, and think, if you have oily skin, you are probably going to be less prone to fine lines and wrinkles!
Though your pore size is probably something you can't permanently change, you can definitely shrink them temporarily if you choose. Clinique makes a make up that is specifically for pore shrinking & oil control. It is a unique makeup that is part pigment and part astringent. Go to the Clinique counter and ask about it, and I'm sure they will send you home with a sample to try out before you buy. I used it back when I had oily skin, and it was pretty amazing stuff. |

Hall of Famer |
It sounds counter intuitive, but steam and cleansing with soap (yes, soap... not the "beauty bars" or Dove, but plain old hand-made soap, even goat's milk soap) could probably the best thing for you.
Acne is fundamentally a reaction to "infected" pores. What ever you do, don't dry your skin out by using astringents or witch hazel. That's a sure fire way to get a raging problem under way. It's like throwing gas on a fire! Sometimes, if indicated, antibiotics are prescribed. While some may say otherwise, there is not any scientifically proven link between diet and acne. That's not to say eat junk food, or refrain from chocolate. There's simply not any significant evidence of any cause-and-effect between them. However, there is evidence of a clear link between Vitamin A and good skin. Again, it may sound counter intuitive, but a non-comedogenic lotion should be used on the face, particularly after showering/bathing, and as necessary throughout the day. If your face becomes oily in the midst of the day, a simple wiping with soft paper products (tissues) should suffice to remove any excess sebum residue. If it's excessively oily, then a quick, mild cleansing with soap and water should be done. Typically, oil on skin acts as an attractant to all sorts of debris, including bacteria which causes infection resulting in inflamed pores. Keeping the skin clean is the #1 way of preventing (and curing) acne. Again, this is not a "one size fits all" recommendation, but an overview of fundamentally accepted and recognized treatments. |

Pores unfortunatly will never shrink. BeautiControl has a product called "Secret Agent Primer" that goes on before you put your foundation on that keeps the makeup and dirt and oil from getting into your pores which makes them less noticable. If you would like to order this product look it up on Link
they have it in different colors neutral for all skin types, yellow for dark circles ect..., green for rosacia or redness if you would like a one on one contact me at jhamiltongk84@yahoo.com hopefully this was helpful! |
