One of my azalea bushes is blooming again. It's Setp 25. Is that normal? I've never had one bloom in the fall.

Is your azalea one of the Encore varieties? They rebloom in the fall.

David, I don't know what variety it is. It's been in our garden for two summers now and it didn't bloom last fall. Maybe all the rain helped this year.

I had one by a pond that bloomed only in the fall. I had gotten it at Lowes garden center. It was a very shady area. I really shouldnt have planted it there. I woundered if the shade had something to do with it. But it never bloomed in the spring.

PS--Thanks. I had no idea that some of the varieties bloom in the fall. I learned something, so thank you for that. Wink

The Encore variety of azaleas have not been on the market very long. I think they may have been developed here in Alabama actually.

Here's a website I found on the Encore Varieties. The site says they were invented by "plant breeder Robert E. "Buddy" Lee of Independence, La." So, not far from AL.

Our blooms look identical to the "Autumn Empress" blooms in the slide show.

Thanks for de-mystifying this for me, David.
