OK ladies, here is a question that came up at work today. Do you flush your tampons or do you toss them in the trash. I'm not talking about the paper, the applicator (cardboard or plastic), I am talking about the cotton with the cord attached to it. How do you dispose of it?

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Growing up, I lived in an old house with clay pipes and was instructed not to flush. I got in the habit of throwing them in the trash and never questioned it until a couple of months ago. I would occasionally flush if I was in some sort of situation where there was no trash can, but it made me nervous. Then I was reading another forum where they were they were discussing this topic, and the overwhelming majority flushed. I recently have started flushing when I know I am in a place that's hooked up to city water and has modern plumbing. You definitely shouldn't flush if he has a septic system.
