How do ya'll save on groceries? I try, I really do... but I stink at it. I like to go where they have what I want and it's fresh! That is pretty much all I require.
I have friends who are GREAT at grocery shopping. They use www.couponmom.com or www.thegrocerygame.com and they rack up on the CHEAP. I guess going to Sam's or Costco's or BJ's or whatever warehouse store is near could save you money, too. I just don't know if I have room under the sink for a crate of paper towels!
What do ya'll do? I do nothing! LOL, I just complain about groceries being so darn expensive

The best way to save on groceries, get what you want, get it at the peak of freshness, and save money is to grow it in a garden. Then you also get the added bonus of a tan, exercise, and lots of vitamin d. All at no cost. Plus you save on your gas bill to.
I dont know "that smart chick" I have tryed for years. I know people that cook great meals every night. I dont see how they can afford it. I sure can't.
Coupons are great but I seem to never buy what the coupons are for. I always buy the store brand whatever is the cheapest.
I guess my grandmother had the right ideal cann all you can in the summer. the only thing about that is I dont know how to can I was to busy playing and not enough time in the kitchen and now that shes gone I miss that. cause my mother never canned anything with out my grandmother help.
I guess with each generation things like that are becoming apart of the past.
Thats to bad, maybe I need to read some books and give it a try. it can't be that hard to learn.
Sometimes you just have to smile, pretend everythings okay, hold back the tears and just walk away.

This is what works for me. Enter the store with no particular item in mind. Yes, you heard correctly. I start with what's usually most expensive - the meat. I go to that section first & buy only what is on sale. Then I pick veggies, pasta, rice, etc. that are on sale or just at a good price to go with the meat.
I also try to keep a large variety of spices. You can find a recipe for anything on the internet. Sometime you have to substitute, but it still tastes yummy.

The major downfall of my grocery shopping is... we eat out a lot! So, on that note: has anyone tried www.restaurant.com? They have gift certificates or coupons or whatever you call them (vouchers?) for restaurants that you can buy for say $3 for a $10 one and $10 for a $25 one. The only one in North Alabama is NY Deli in Huntsville. BUT... they have lots for the Nashville metro and I love going up there. Anyone had any experience with these things? Do merchants take them pretty easily? Can you combine them?

We love Fresh Market. We always feel so virtuous when we shop there all the food is fresh, mostly organic and beautiful. We also feel broke. Last time we went we bought The Silver Palate oatmeal. It was wonderful, nutty, rough cut. It also cost $4.99 for a small box. After we finished it, I really didn't want to drive to Hwy 280 to get more so I thought I'd just get Quaker from Food World. Got to the row, and there was the same Silver palate oatmeal, same box, same size, reg. $1.39 but on sale buy one/get one. I felt like an idiot.
One of the best ways I have found to save on my families food bill is to buy Angel food every month. You can order a unit of food every month. Menues change every month for a variety of food. I plan my meals by the menu and only have to buy a few things to go along. You can check out this months menu at AngelfoodMinistries.com You can also check for a host site near you. They are nationwide. I always have something in my freezer for dinner.

I always go to Aldi first, then Walmart. I save tons on meat, milk, juice and cheese at Aldi. I'm a brand name snob, I guess, so I haven't tried any of their other store brands. We are very limited here in the Shoals on our choices for grocery shopping.
